Surfing in Baja

Surfing in BajaWelcome to the mexbound.com Baja guide to surfing Southern Baja California. You'll find all the info you need on some of the regions best spots, as well as info on when to head Mexico-way to make sure you score the waves you're looking for.
When Surfing Baja, you can leave all your problems at the border. Just imagine: surfing with just you and your friends, perfect waves, and no crowds! It's not some fantasy world; surfing Baja California has everything you could want. Relaxed environment, cool people, cheap and tasty tacos and lots of cold cervezas. Just make sure you get MEXICAN INSURANCE before you leave! Though a little further south of the border (about 10-12 hours), the surfing in Southern Baja can be well worth the drive. Water temperatures are consistent with those of Baja Norte, though in the summer months the temps can get a bit warmer depending on the currents.
On land, things are much more desolate than in Baja Norte. Most spots require some off road driving, and the smart traveler will pack camping gear, extra food, a spare tire, and a gas can. If you’re willing to fight through some of the troubles on land, the reward will be well worth it in the water. Summertime swells from the south and southwest pump, and hurricanes slam both sides of the Baja peninsula in the late summer. In the winter northwest swells hug the uncrowded coast. Below are some of the better surf breaks in Southern Baja with a little information on each:
