San Felipe Attractions

Konsag Island

Konsag Island
Plainly visible from the bay and reachable by boat in about 45 minutes, Konsag Island in San Felipe appears to look like a sail at first glance, it is often referred to as the "Konsag Rock". The island offers a large population of sea lions, seals, and many species of marine birds. Its located 22 miles off the coast of San Felipe in the Sea of Cortez. The fishing near the island is some of the best fishing you will find anywhere.

San Felipe Lighthouse

Lighthouse
The lighthouse is one of the most recognizable landmarks in San Felipe. The lighthouse in San Felipe is located around the Malecon area. It is a functioning lighthouse, that guides local fisherman back home safely on foggy days. From the lighthouse you can see the shrine to the Virgin Mary and views of the city. There are several restaurants located on the Malecon that offer patio views of the Lighthouse.

Malecon

Malecon
The 4 block waterfront area in downtown San Felipe is very active, and where most of the tourists hang out, known as the Malecon alone is dotted with almost a dozen fresh shrimp and fish taco stands, which also specialize in fresh seafood cocktails and freshly dug, steamed clams. The Malecon is a great place to charter a boat or just talk a nice walk while viewing the Sea of Cortez.

Puertecitos Hot Springs

Puertecitos Hot Springs
55 kms south of San Felipe, where paved road MEX 5 ends, there is a village known as Puertecitos. A small place made up by just a few hundred houses that have a spectacular view to the Sea of Cortez, where you will find, thermal waters and beautiful beaches in which to relax, as well as basic services and tourist camps which will make of your visit an unforgettable experience and a real escape from civilization.

San felipe Spring Break

San Felipe Spring Break
San Felipe is known for its spring break. The dates vary from year to year, but some time during February, March or April, college doors all over Canada and the United States are thrown open and students flood toward San Felipe. It's the combination of weather, sun, sandy beaches, late nightclubs, good restaurants and party atmosphere that keeps students coming back to San Felipe every year.

The Valley of the Giants

The Valley of the Giants
Located 15 Km south of downtown San Felipe and pretty close to the tourist camp Punta Estrella, Valle de los Gigantes is a must see site for San Felipe visitors. This place's main tourist attraction is a huge amount of peculiar cacti known as cardones (Carnegia Gigantea), which are unique in the world and are native only to this area.

Virgin of Guadalupe

Virgin of Guadalupe
Rising above San Felipe Bay is the shrine to the Virgin of Guadalupe. The shrine was built in honor of the Virgin Mary. From the shrine there are amazing views of the city, Malecon, lighthouse and bay. In the mornings fishermen can be seen climbing the stairs to the shrine before heading out to sea. Hoping that the Virgin Mary will grace them with a good day out at sea.
