Ensenada is a excellent place for sportfishing. Once considered the "Yellowtail Capital of the World" in the late 1950's, the outer waters surrounding the Ensenada's Bahia de Todos Santos still provide excellent year-round bottom fishing for lingcod, yellowtail, barracuda, bonita and especially rock cod. Tuna runs off the shore of Ensenada for a period of eight months, but they run mostly during August.
Ensenada's Punta Banda area experiences huge cold water upwellings creating some of the best bottom fishing in the area. If you want to get into som real serious fishing head 80 to 100 miles south of Ensenada, these areas are teeming with fish. To charter a boat visit the marina in Ensenada, or contact one of the companies listed below. You can always find a local fisherman to take you out, and you can usually negotiate the rates when fishing in Ensenada. Mexican Fishing licenses are required for boat fishing (not shore fishing) and are checked by the local warden. Fishing licenses are often sold in the Port Captain's office at the local Marina, however it is a good idea to get one before you leave. If you don't have equpment and tackle you may be able to rent fishing equpement in Ensenada.
