Surfing Calafia

Calafia is a wave that most surfers check but never surf. Calafia is a right point break that reels on a big south. Calafia needs an extremely big swell to make this point break. Rumor has it that Calafia gets near perfect, however I have never seen it working. Calafia is a fast racy wave that gets mushy on the inside. On smaller days, there is a righthander on the inside called Bus Stops, which is most likely what you would be surfing because Calafia never breaks. Calafia is sheltered by cliffs which keep it glassy when other spots are blown out.

  • Location: Km 35.5, Six miles south of Rosarito Beach on the free road (Old Highway 1). Right in front of the Calafia Hotel.
  • Swell Direction: Calafia extremely big South, worth checking on a big North.
